TAG gets connected!

Swiss-made smartwatches are now generally available. Yes, the Swiss have finally succumbed to the modern age!

TAG Heuer announced their new smartwatch, or ‘connected watch’ in TAG-speak, at Baselworld 2015. Although they did not have anything to show at the time, it is fair to say that the appetite of the masses was well and truly whetted! It was finally unveiled in 2016 in New York by LVMH president Jean-Claude Biver.

In collaboration with Intel and Google, the watch runs Android Wear, has a touchscreen, multiple home screens and is protected by a sheet of sapphire crystal.

Confused?!

This is a smartwatch (sorry, connected watch) for the traditionalist who wants to go with the flow! It actually, at first glance looks like a traditional watch. Indeed, as rumour has it, TAG’s own General Manager thought it was a Carrera Calibre when he first saw it!

TAG have, however, been rather cautious in their approach, offering early buyers of the connected watch an opportunity to trade it in for a reserved mechanical version with a similar look and feel! Do they doubt their own product, or is this just their way of saying that they think that smartwatches are a passing fad? Either way, a strange offer, in my opinion.

Anyway, if you are interested in purchasing a TAG Heuer Connected watch, they have a good range, starting at about £1,100. Keep your eyes open at Goldsmiths and Beaverbrooks.

In the meantime, take a look at the promo video:
